UNIBEN Announces Collapse of School Servers

By The9jaTrend

The University of Benin authority has asked the 3,500 prospective students who recently sat for Post-UME to return to class and write the examination again. This is based on the fact that the University servicers collapsed on Tuesday December 8, 2020.

The school Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire on Thursday, admitted that there was a “Technical challenge”.

She revealed that there is no cause for alarm, assuring none of the affected candidate will be deprived of their chance to sit for the examination.

“There was a challenge and prospective students affected were asked to return to write again. Situation is under control, no cause for alarm as none of them will be deprived of their chance to sit for the examination”, she said this in response to inquiry by The9jaTrend.

Recall that the University announced the collapse of the servers in a terse SMS, sent out Wednesday afternoon.

The message directed the affected candidates, who came from all parts of the country to write the examination, to return to the University for another test.

“If you know anyone that wrote post utme exam today 8th December 2020 @ict Hall Ugbowo, tell the person to come back from any state or city he or she is. UNIBEN server failed for applicants that wrote 9am & 10.30am. Authorities have tried their best to call some students but their phone off. Tell ur loved ones…,” the message on the University’s SMS platform read.

A source in the University, who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity, said the University authorities might be economical with the truth, adding that “the servers collapsed for most of yesterday (Tuesday).

“This is a major crisis. How do you get all the affected candidates to come back. What about those who came from the far North and other states to write the test? I wonder why the University management is acting as if the University of Benin is meant only for Benin City. If you ask the candidates to come back, who bears the cost? How do you handle the risks of travelling?”.

Meanwhile, the University of Benin has explained the reason for the blackout at Ugbowo Campus of the institution.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening by Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the University said the power outage was as a result of the crisis in the neighbouring Community of Ihovbor, where restive youths cut off the source of electricity.

“This is to inform members of the University of Benin community that the present power outage on campus is as a result of a community unrest at Ihovbor, the main source of power supply to the University. (The Community youths have forced power outage due to a community clash). It is hoped that normalcy would be restored soonest. Inconveniences are regretted,” the statement concluded.

Real Madrid Academy Ready To Rival Big European Facilities - Rohr

By The9jaTrend

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr says the Real Madrid Academy in Port Harcourt can be compared to any of the best academies across the world.

This is just as the Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor on Real Madrid Academy, Barrister Christopher Green, says the state government remains fully resolute in their quest of making the project the best ever in Africa.

Rohr, who showered encomiums on the structures, intentions and executions made so far on the prestigious academy, stated this at the weekend when he was shown around the facility by Green.

After a comprehensive tour around the four different blocks of the Academy situated in the same surroundings as the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt, Rohr could not hold back his admiration for the project and the facilitator, Governor Nyesom Wike.

In Rohr's company for the tour were Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director Austin Eguavoen and Super Eagles' Team Secretary Dayo Enebi Achor.

According to him, “The infrastructures are high level, it's like in Europe and you can compare with one of the best academies in Europe like they have in Spain; Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia or in France in Paris (PSG) and in Germany in Bayern Munich.

“I think they (Real Madrid Academy, Port Harcourt) are ready to start this programme with these wonderful structures and also with the good pitch. It will be very interesting to see what they can do.

“I think the Governor has done great work and now they have to select the best players and bring some good players in a few years to the future," said the 67-year old expatriate coach.

Aside from the outdoor facilities comprising of a football pitch and well-constructed swimming pool among others; Barrister Green took Rohr and his contingent round the academic blocks which house classrooms, staff rooms, student hostels, ICT rooms, Biology, Physics and Chemistry laboratories, Dining Halls and other meticulous provisions provided for in the well thought out structure.

Rohr specifically expressed delight in the academic aspect of the Real Madrid Academy.

"What I like is that it is not just football, but there is also the school side. There are teachers who will be coming because you are never sure to succeed in football and if you don't succeed, there can be injuries, there can be other problems, it is good to have the school side also and that they did not forget it," he said.

Eguavoen who has coached several Nigerian national teams in the past could also not hold back in his admiration while describing the quality of infrastructure put in place at the Treasure Base of the Nation.

"I am very impressed. What else can you ask for, for football development? Combining education with football is what we've been craving for and what we've come here to see today is wonderful, it is excellent and hopefully, we will gain from this in time to come.

"I don't think any other academy will beat this (in Nigeria) except maybe if you come in here and you have an interest and are passionate about what you want to achieve and when you see this, you want to better this. But for now, I don't think anyone will be able to better it,” he stated.

Steer Clear of Ologbo Dukedom - Edaghase Warns Mischief Makers

By The9jaTrend

Legal Adviser to Ologbo Dukedom and legal practitioner, Barr. Matthew Edaghese  has advised mischief makers trying to fragment trouble in Ologbo Dukedom to steer clear of the area, stressing that the Dukedom is an indivisible entity under the rulership of the Onogie of Ologbo as instituted by the Oba of Benin.

Barr. Edaghese gave the admonishion in an open letter to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, titled, "the provocative, rebellious and unlawful declaration by faceless elements in Ologbo Dukedom and the need to restore sanity".

According to Edaghese, "it is our brief that vide a baseless petition from the law firm of Ighodalo Imadegbelo (SAN) & Co. to the Police Commissioner, Edo State, dated the 14th day of October 2020, wherein, certain unnamed persons claiming to be Elders of Itsekiri Communites in Ologbo Dukedom and pledging allegiance to the authority of one Prince Johnson Atseleghe, whom they claimed to be the Iyasele of Ologbo, a non existent title in Ologbo Dukedom, recognized by the Enogie of Ologbo, nor the Benin Royal Palace or the Edo State Government.

"The false historical narrative contained in the ill- conceived, ill-fated, baseless and highly provocative petition, wherein a rediculous and futile attempt was made to clothe some quarters in Ologbo Dukedom in the garb of autonomy and the status of break-away territories within Ologbo Dukedom, is nothing but an act of rebellion and an attack on the Palace of Ologbo Dukedom, the Royal Palace of the Oba of Benin and the authority of the Government of Edo State.

"We hereby put these purveyors of mischief, criminal and abominable acts on notice, that Ologbo Dukedom is one indivisible entity as gazetted under the extant laws of Edo State under the rulership of the Enogie of Ologbo. There is no parallel traditional authority in the Ologbo Dukedom, any act of rebellion and treason shall be visited with dire consequences, legally and traditionally."

The governor should call the dissidents to order to forestall a break down of peace, Edaghese said, "we urge Your Excellency to use your good offices as the chief security officer of the state to call the dissidents constituting nuisance, disturbing the peace in the Dukedom and endangering the lives of the good people of Ologbo to order, to forestall descent into anarchy," he appealed.
