Edo 2020: APC is Instigating Violence to Cause Postponement of Election - Nehikhare

By Simeon OSAJIE

Edo State People's Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating violence to cause the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to postpone of the forthcoming Edo governorship election in the state.

The Edo State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, while addressing a press conference on Sunday 31st August, 2020 in Benin said the attack of party supporters in Agbede Etsako West and Okpe Akoko-Edo local government areas respectively  were part of the plans by the APC to compel INEC for the postponement of the election because it has now done on them that they would loose the election.

According to Edo PDP SPS, over eighteen persons were seriously injured in the Agbede and Okpe attack after which two persons have so far been arrested by the police.

"Our members  were  holding meeting  in one of our leaders, House,  Jah Osuma, at Agbede when some APC thugs  came to attack them."

"From the confessional statement obtained from the arrested suspects, it was discovered that it was the same group of people that carried out the attack of the PDP Ward Rally at Agbede and that of Okpe.

"The APC is now instigating crisis all over the state to force INEC to postpone the election because they have discovered that the election has been won and lost.

Governor Godwin Obaseki's popularity has dazzled the APC, they are now looking for a way to truncate the process and this we will not allow.  The election must hold on September 19 and Edo people should use their PVC to put the APC where they belong on that day" he said.

Chris Nehikhare  however called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure extra ordinary security in Edo State before, during and after the election and those found to be perpetrating the crime should be apprehended and brought to book.
