The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, has paraded 2 Armed Robbers and 124 suspects arrested from different offences across Edo State.
Briefing newsmen in Benin City, CP Kokumo said the 126 suspects were arrested for Store Breaking, Looting, Arson, Escape from Lawful Custody and other Offences.
The Commissioner said, “EndSARS protest, was consequently hijacked by hoodlums and mobs who went berserk wreaking havoc in Benin metropolis, burnt down police stations, carted away arms and ammunition, raped women in some areas, killed policemen on their gory path to destruction, freed convicted criminals and felons, looted businesses and extorted innocent Nigerians".
The Edo Police CP added that, "as the looting and destruction was taking place, the Police and other security agencies mustard their acts together and were able to arrest some of the arsonists, looters and escapees.
"Out of the 126 suspects arrested in the state, 28 were among those who broke into Nigeria Customs Service Warehouse WAEC Road, Off Benin-Auchi Road, Aduwawa Benin City.
"In Blessed Doris-Dey Warehouse, along Benin-Agbor Road, Benin City, 16 Suspects has been arrested. The hoodlums who looter the palliatives and medical equipments at Medical Stores Drugs Hall, along Medical Stores Road. Benin City, 45 suspected were arrested.
"The Olam Nigeria PLC Private Warehouse, located at Abico Junction, Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City that were also looted, 13 Suspects has so far been arrested, while 10 suspects has been arrested in connected of the broken into the Correctional Centre at Benin/Sapele Road and Oko in the state capital.
In another development, the state police commissioner, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, paraded Kingsley Adoko ‘m’, Esther Julius ‘f’, Adams Shaka ‘m’, Audu Mustafa ‘m’, Divine Mackson ‘m’, Michael Aigbedion ‘m’, Franca Samuel ‘f’ and Peter John (alias Atorodo) ‘m’ who were hobnobbing on how to break into Comrade Philip Shaibu Town Hall at Jattu, in Etsako Centre local government area of the state. "They were however arrested by some vigilantes and policemen of Jattu Police Division before any damage could be done," the commissioner said.
The CP added, "At Oliha Market Junction, Benin City, two armed robbers named Michael Peter ‘m’ and OZ Esi ‘m’ were arrested by officers of the Nigerian Army, attached to 4 Brigade Headquarters, Benin City for allegedly attempting to snatch a Honda Civic Car with Reg. No. AA-261-AY from one Mr. John Destiny.
"Part of the suspects arrested are four hoodlums; Charles Okoeguale ‘m’, Ojo Osamiemwenfan Igbinoba ‘m’, Gift Osayiwu ‘m’ and Osasumwen Imanawe ‘m’, who were seen with Police rifles, uniforms and other accoutrements carted away by hoodlums who invaded the several police stations during “ENDSARS" protest.
Items recovered from the suspects were Five AK 47 rifles, Two locally made exhibit guns, One locally made gun, One Lexus 330 SUV with Reg. No. KWL-205-AZ, One Toyota Camry Saloon car with Reg. No. LSD-231-GD, Two bags of 50kg and one 25kg of rice and Twenty four creates of assorted drinks.
