Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, a Socio-Political Group,
has advised the Ijaws settlers in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State to desist from laying claim to kingship in the locality.
In a press statement issued and signed by it’s President, Elder Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and Secretary, Pastor Osayuki Uhimwen, made available to media practitioners in Benin City, said, the Ijaws have no right whatsoever to make such claim in Benin Kingdom.
He said, “they need to be told that coming to Edo State to exercise traditional rights is an aberration and it is obnoxious to the ear of the general public and the people of the Benin Kingdom respectively; Who gave them the authority or staff of office to exercise any traditional rights in Benin Kingdom?
”Can a Benin man go to Bayelsa State and lay claim of land or traditional ruler there? “For a child not to know his or her ancestral root or historical lineage is a shame and Taboo”.
The statement added, ”Ijaws living in Benin Kingdom are strangers and settlers to our land and until they are submissive and show loyalty to the traditional authority/institutions of the Benin Kingdom who are the original owners of the land, they will never get a headway.
”They should not let their squabbles go beyond reasonable level or the sons of the soil will have to intervene and they know what that means.
The group further warning that, “the Movement BSM Worldwide, will no longer fold our arms and watch while strangers for no justifiable reason desecrate our land."
