Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate has assured victims of land grabbing which amounts to destruction of trees and the ecosystem, in the Edo state of equity, fairness and justice when elected on Saturday 19 gubernatorial election.
Pastor Ize-Iyamu was represented by Barr. Ekpen Osa at the Voters Assembly convened by the Labour/Civil Society and Rural Communities Coalition in Benin City, about the environment policy of his manifesto, The Simple Agenda - Infrastructural development and urban renewal plan.
The APC candidate said, "Tree planting not only ensures a healthier environment, but also bestows additional source of revenue for the state, hence, he shall enact a comprehensive environmental management policy and ensure strict compliance".
Part of this compliance he said is that, "We will ensure that every person in Edo State is encouraged to plant at least 5 trees a year, which comes to over 10 million trees annually".
"Edo state presently has less than 10% forest cover which is some way off the United Nations recommendation of at least 25%", so his government, "will leverage on the opportunity made available by the United Nations and the World Bank to gain enough carbon credit through carbon sequestration by planting more trees," Pastor Ize-Iyamu said.
