government intervention to incorporate COEBEN into Edo State Pension Scheme

Pensioners of
the defunct College Of Education, Ekiadolor, Benin City, Edo State has
passionately appealed to the Edo State Government under the leadership of Mr.
Godwin Obaseki for the payment of their pension arrears.
The senior
citizens under the aegis of Association of Pensioners, College Of
Education, Ekiadolor, Benin who paid an
unscheduled visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
Press Centre in Benin said they are appealing to the Governor Godwin Obaseki of
Edo State to kindly look towards their direction for payment of their three
years pension arrears.
Addressing
newsmen, Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Luke Imafidon Emumwen said, "We
are appealing to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to help sign the
document we presented to him after our meeting with the Secretary to State
Government (SSG), Barr. Osarodion Ogie.
"Some of
our fellow pensioners are dead. They died while in acting service, they died of
what they could have taken control of, some are very sick and bedridden while
some are not able to buy drugs for themselves.
"We believe
the governor will do the needful and listen to our plight because he is a man
with reasoning.”
Sighting the
document signed by the Association which was titled "Request For Your
Intervention In the Plight of College of Education, Ekiadolor Pensioners and
Retirees Arising From Non-Payment of Pension and Gratuity.
"We were
last paid in the month of September 2019. Since then, we have made several efforts to get the governor's
attention to our plight, but to no avail.
"We
earnestly and sincerely seek your intervention in this matter to enable us
survive the present day harsh economic conditions.
"Many of
us are suffering from one health challenge or the other, coupled with other
essentials of life," they said in
the document signed by Mr. Richard Aituayuwa and Dr.a Luke Emumwen.
