Edo 2020: APC is Instigating Violence to Cause Postponement of Election - Nehikhare

By Simeon OSAJIE

Edo State People's Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating violence to cause the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to postpone of the forthcoming Edo governorship election in the state.

The Edo State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, while addressing a press conference on Sunday 31st August, 2020 in Benin said the attack of party supporters in Agbede Etsako West and Okpe Akoko-Edo local government areas respectively  were part of the plans by the APC to compel INEC for the postponement of the election because it has now done on them that they would loose the election.

According to Edo PDP SPS, over eighteen persons were seriously injured in the Agbede and Okpe attack after which two persons have so far been arrested by the police.

"Our members  were  holding meeting  in one of our leaders, House,  Jah Osuma, at Agbede when some APC thugs  came to attack them."

"From the confessional statement obtained from the arrested suspects, it was discovered that it was the same group of people that carried out the attack of the PDP Ward Rally at Agbede and that of Okpe.

"The APC is now instigating crisis all over the state to force INEC to postpone the election because they have discovered that the election has been won and lost.

Governor Godwin Obaseki's popularity has dazzled the APC, they are now looking for a way to truncate the process and this we will not allow.  The election must hold on September 19 and Edo people should use their PVC to put the APC where they belong on that day" he said.

Chris Nehikhare  however called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure extra ordinary security in Edo State before, during and after the election and those found to be perpetrating the crime should be apprehended and brought to book.

OSAGIE'S NEW TITLE: No Ora Chief has the Rght, Power to Confer Honorary Title on Anyone - Ojehomon

By Simeon OSAJIE

Ora Sons and Daughters Association, Owan West local government area of Edo State has reacted to the honorary chieftaincy title on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, governorship candidate of Action Progressive Congress (APC) as the 'Oyakhire of Ora'.

In a press statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Omololu Ojehomon said, "at no time did the Oje of Ora elect, Prof. Joshua Aisiku get involved in conferment of an honorary title of Oyakhire on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu".

The statement reads,  “There’s jubilation in the camp of APC as the Palace of the Oje of Ora in Owan West LGA of Edo state, yesterday 27th of August, conferred a honorary chieftaincy title of Oyakhire' meaning, 'he who wipes our tears', on the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

"There is no title known as Okpojenagan of Ora. There is Okpojenagan of Ohia-Ojiwere, the youngest Chief in Ohia.  No Chief has the right, power to confer honorary title, that right rest on the Oje of Ora, exclusively!

"The two Chiefs in Ohia have no locus to offer titles nor cast aspersions on the good work Governor Obaseki has done in Ora and will continue to do for his Ora people.

Omololu's  statement further emphasized that, after the said publication, a thorough investigation was carried out and later find out that, "there is a matter in court on the issue of the Oje of Ora elect.

"On the day in question, August 27, 2020, the Oje of Ora elect was in a meeting of Evbiobe at Eguarelu for an extended period of time.   After the meeting he proceeded to his father’s house in Obe Street in the company of Chief Ojeiwa, Chief David George (the Obenokhua of Evbiobe)  Air Force Officer, David Okanigbuan, Mr Frank Enude, Mr. Daniel Eghorawere and others.

"We understand that these are desperate times in politics. However, we must correct the blatant abuse on us as Ora people, an attack on our traditional institution and the impunity of the APC candidate to drag the Ora people into his web of lies.

"We reject this and have asked our Oje of Ora Elect to make a public statement in respect to this abuse, impersonation and illegal acquisition of title in Ora.

"The sons and daughters of Ora appreciate the good work Governor Godwin Obaseki is doing and we support him for second term," she said.

Edo 2020: PDP Raises Alarm over APC’s Ceaseless Attacks on Judiciary

…says selection of court to hear cases portends grave danger to Democracy.

By Simeon OSAJIE

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over what it described as the ceaseless attacks on the judiciary by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

State Publicity Secretary of the Edo State Chapter of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare, who spoke on behalf of the party’s Campaign Council, in Benin City, also decried APC’s selection of the particular courts and judges to hear cases involving its members, bordering on the gubernatorial election in the state.

The PDP Campaign Council said: “We members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have called this press conference to bring to the attention of the public the ceaseless attacks on the Judiciary, the last hope of the common man.

“On Monday, August 24, 2020, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, granted the application filed by the APC for the transfer of five cases bordering on the September 19 gubernatorial election in Edo State, which have been running in the Benin Division of the Federal High Court.

“The transfer of the cases followed a request by the APC, in which the party alleged that Justices in the entire Benin Division of the Federal High Court have shown bias against the party (APC), and the party said it would not get justice from these respected Judges.”

Nehikhare noted: “With this singular action of the APC, the party has denigrated the entire judiciary, attacked its integrity and independence to do its job, scandalised and vilified the respected Judges in these courts.

“The APC also made wild and unsubstantiated allegations of bias against Justice M. G. Umar of the Federal High Court Benin and Justice Taiwo Taiwo in Abuja, and assaulted their character.”

He explained that “After a careful appraisal of this development, we have come to the conclusion that the APC is on a forum shopping mission; to pick and choose which court will hear their cases, a dangerous practice where litigants select the particular courts that they want their cases heard, and which they believe will give them favorable judgments.”

The PDP queried: “Is the APC telling Nigerians that the party has some courts that will give them favourable judgments, and another set of courts that shows bias against them?”

“This portends grave danger to our fledgling democracy and society, and an attempt by the APC to arm-twist the judiciary and force judges to bow to their tune.

“The APC also alleged insecurity in Edo State even when the facts on ground show clearly that the state is secure.

“In fact, the few pockets of unrest we have witnessed in the state were orchestrated by APC leaders and their proxies, and we can deduce that APC leaders may have instigated the unrest to serve as alibi for the transfer application of their cases, which the party has now secured,” he declared.

But in a swift response, the Chairman of the Edo State APC Media Campaign Council, Mr. John Mayaki wondered why the PDP reacted with "mischievous hysteria", to the granting of a routine application to guarantee justice for both parties in the suits.

"The chief judge of the Federal High Court acted on the merit of the APC application, and did what honest and proper procedure demanded," a release by the Edo APC campaign explained.  "How that equated an attack on the judiciary and forum-shopping only exists in the PDP's jittery and frenzied application."

The APC said it had nothing but high praise and respect for the courts, for taking actions that would assure everyone of justice and fairness; but wondered why the PDP was dragging the courts to the partisan front.

"We should be very wary of dragging the judiciary into politics," the party warned, adding that even a desperate PDP should know that.

The APC wondered why, in its "idleness and listlessness", the PDP had suddenly turned  spokespersons for the judiciary, instead of focusing on its campaign, where it was losing steam, every passing second.

It added that this news conference was the latest example of how the Edo PDP wasted its time on "frivolities", explaining however that the PDP was employing such ploys to excuse the electoral disaster that awaits it on September 19.

"Let the world bear us witness.  When we, the APC, were busy campaigning and selling our message of hope and SIMPLE Agenda to our Edo people, PDP was busy addressing useless press conferences to push out lies and deceit. When it loses badly on election day," the party added, "it would rush to the same press conference to lament its failure and allege rigging."

Oshiomhole Deceived 14 Edo Assembly Members-Elect, Denied Constituents Representation - Obaseki

By Simeon OSAJIE

Edo State Governor and candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Obaseki has said that the sacked National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole deceived the 12 members-elect of the State’s Assembly who refused to present themselves for inauguration and two others whose seats were declared vacant, denying their constituents representation.

The governor said this in Adolor Ward 4, Ekiadolor, Ovia North East Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, during his reelection campaign rally.
Obaseki said the affected members-elect in their selfish pursuits and obedience to their godfather, Oshiomhole, betrayed the confidence reposed in them by their constituents after the House was proclaimed on June 17, 2019.

“The godfather is very deceptive; he deceived 14 members of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) and today they don't have jobs,” the governor said.

Urging the people not to be deceived by the antics of the godfather and his allies, Obaseki noted: "Let me tell you what is going on here in Ekiadolor, you may not know. About six years ago, they tried to play politics with you. They decided to set up two Universities but we didn't know it was one they wanted to set up. They used a cover saying they are setting up two state universities.
“They pretended they wanted to set up two universities and took all the money to build one and in three years, nothing was done here. They stopped an existing College of Education and we didn't have the university they promised us, no student was admitted.”

To right the wrong, the governor said his administration decided to set up a new College of Education with three campuses in Abudu, Igueben and Afuze.

Obaseki continued: "I went to President Muhammadu Buhari to let him know we need a Federal College of Education in Ekiadolor, knowing that they have deceived us about having a university in Edo South. Thanks to President Buhari; he approved it and now we have a Federal College of Education in Ekiadolor. They don't want the school to start as they keep sponsoring protest against the projects everyday. Please warn them to stop demonstrating.”

Chairman of Edo PDP Campaign Council Chief Dan Orbih said: “In the eight years of Oshiomhole's administration, Ekiadolor people were abandoned as the existing institution in the area was abandoned and a new one built in Iyamho.

"Obaseki is paying attention to the existing institution that was neglected by Oshiomhole's administration. Obaseki has the answers to all the huge problems created by Oshiomhole as pastor Ize-Iyamu's Simple Agenda can't solve them.

"We thank God for Obaseki who has done well in developing the state; we all have benefited from his developmental strides in the last three years and eight months. Oshiomhole is not God and can't decide who will become governor in Edo State;  it’s only the people that can decide.”

Obaseki in talks with NEPZA for Economic Zone Status for Edo

By Simeon OSAJIE

The Edo State Government has said that the vibrant private sector scene in the state has benefited immensely from the favourable policies designed to attract investment and remove bottlenecks that hinder business growth.

Head, Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Kelvin Uwaibi, who said this in a chat with journalists in Benin City, explained that “The state government is presently working on an economic zone as part of strategies to provide incentives to the industrial park in collaboration with the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).”

He noted that this would accelerate the relocation of industries and factories in the state which will benefit from the 55MW Ossiomo Independent Power Plant and opportunities that would stem from the 6000bpd Edo Modular Refinery being developed with support from the Governor Obaseki-led government in the state.

He added that the government’s efforts in expanding the business space has been validated by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which recently reported that the unemployment rate in the state has dropped by 6.1 per cent.

He further said that the state government has sustained robust engagement with the private sector in the state, which has resulted in the provision of bespoke services to encourage and promote Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other players in the space.

According to him, “On private sector engagement, the World Bank in January 2019 had a joint visit with ESIPO to over 30 major businesses in the state to collaborate on business-friendly policies and recommendations to the government.  In the same year, the United States of America Consulate General; British High Commissioner; Ambassadors of Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Japan visited the state with the purpose of trade facilitation, investment competitiveness, ease of doing business, and reduction of illegal migration through assisting the state to boost economic activities.

“The reform policies of the administration have led to the attraction of ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Bolt, Super Stores such as Market Square, Kilimanjaro, Jara Mall to the state. In the agriculture space, we have attracted Dufil Group, the brand owners of Indomie and Ellah lakes Plc. The state can today boast of five major airlines flying in and out of Benin City.”

Noting that the state has continued to promote small businesses, he said, “Presently we are working on a programme to make the majority of MSMEs in the state technology-enabled. We are doing this with major donor partners. The COVID-19 pandemic is making us fast-track the process.

Go Beg For Forgiveness From HRH Anselm Aidonogie II - Orbih Urges Oshiomhole

By Simeon OSAJIE

National Vice Chairman, South-South of People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Chairman, Edo 2020 Campaign Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih has advised former Edo State governor and former National Chairman of Action Progressive Congress, APC, Adams Alliu Oshiomhole to go beg for forgiveness from His Highness, the Ojuromi of Uromi, Anselm Aidonogie II over the suspension he slammed while he was the  Executive Governor of the state.

Chief Dan Orbih gave this advice when he unveiled Governor Godwin Obaseki Outside Campaign Visual Unit situated at  Kingsqure, Ring Road, Benin City.

Orbih who debunked APC claims during its campaign tour to Edo Central Senatorial District that the suspension of His Royal Highness was at the instance of Governor Obaseki, lambasted the former state governor, Adams Oshiomhole  over what he termed short memory.

"At the time the Ojuromi of Uromi was suspended, Oshiomhole was still the governor of Edo State. The person that lifted that suspension was the current governor of Edo state. So, APC and Oshiomhole should go back and check their facts right.

"I know that there was a lot of things Oshiomhole did while he was in office and today, he is regretting the action. This is while he is going around kneeling down and asking for people's forgiveness.

"So, all he should do is to go with his candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to the Ojuromi of Uromi and kneel down for forgiveness just as he has been doing across the state.

According to him "there is no point trying to change the story; he was the executive governor at the time the Onojie was suspended and when the current governor took over, he lifted the suspension.

"For us as a political party, the issues for the 2020 election are quite clear. Do we want to go backward where people will be suspended for no just course and to come back few years after to say, if you have the opportunity, you will do same and a few days later, you came back to say the suspension was instigated by someone who was not the governor of the state.

Chief Orbih therefore called on political office holders particularly politicians to learn from the mistake of others and  behave like honourable people.

"If you take decision you should be able to stand by it, not to start changing or kneeling for forgiveness for the decision well informed.  You don't take decision  that you will regret later. I think that is a lesson for those aspiring for an elective positions", Chief Orbih said.

EDO 2020: APC is Running Out of Steam - Major Iduoriyekemwen

By  Simeon OSAJIE

Former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, one of the governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former NDDC Commissioner in Edo State, Hon. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen has described as "a wild wind fiction" the story making the rounds in social media platforms that he has an issue with the Edo State governor, Gidwin Obaseki over a alleged property in Benin City.

In a press statement issued and signed  in Benin City, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen said his attention was drawn to the write up which he would have ordinarily ignored stating that  "for those who know me too well, I don't give  responses to  issues that may have happened in the imagination of some other people or at best, what could be described as a mere street adoption of "tales by moonlight" or even simply put, a poorly cooked fiction to be served to enlightened Edo minds."

'Major' Iduoriyekemwen said, "but to certisfy the curiosity of too many Edo sons and daughters, in Nigeria and in diaspora, as well as other well meaning Nigerians who are interested in the continued growth and development of our dear state, I will volunteer a reaction but not to join issues with the pedestrian mind of the author of the said publication."

The former Majority Leader disclosed that "Let it be boldly engraved in conscious and subconscious minds  of the author, his paymasters and his likes that I, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, is a bonafide member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on which platform I aspired to contest the Governorship of our dear state, although the process is still a subject of litigation."

"It should also be better registered in their minds also that Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, like every other forward looking, growth and development focused Edo sons and daughters will not do anything to trauncate the current move to make Edo state the first, among the committee of states in Nigeria, and as such, their dream of a possible face off between me and the performing governor of Edo state who is currently the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)  is a "tale by moonlight" as well as an indication that their team is fast running out of steam and as such, have resulted to gutter politics which can never take them anywhere."

The former NDDC Commissioner said,  "It is my candid view and opinion that for whatever it may worth, the growth of Edo state and that of his people is upper most in my heart than my personal growth."

"I can boldly state that, even when the writer erroneously reffed to me as a "rumoured land grabber", he failed to site instances of lands grabbed by Matthew as well as site the court or courts where the matters are been attended to, which goes a long way to say that the writer and his sponsors are now bereaved of ideas of constructive politics but now engage in propaganda and name calling which no longer works with Edo people."

EDO 2020: We Are Not Noise Markers But Salient Achievers - Nehikhare

By Simeon OSAJIE

The Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the Edo State government has high stake in Edo Modular Refinery and Petrochemical Limited sited at Ologbo in Benin City.
The Edo State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chris Nehikhare made the revelation while briefing journalists in Benin City, on the outcome it's governorship election campaign in Edo Central Senatorial District.

The Party Publicity Secretary stressed that the Governor Godwin Obaseki led state government invested N700M and provided the land as part of the state's equity in the Modular Refinery's project.
Chris Nehikhare berated the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), for feeding the people with all forms of negative narratives regarding the project and urged Edo people to ignore them as they are pained by the successes of the Governor Obaseki's PDP led administration.

"They are crying about the Modular Refinery. They're shocked that this refinery is working. This refinery is a project of Edo State government. It's done in partnership with a private company and even the company has come out with a statement to confirm that it is an Edo State project.
"Edo State government has a large stake in this project, it provided a large sum of money, about Seven Hundred Million Naira (N700,000,000), and provided the land on which the refinery is built.

"So, for all intent and purposes, it's an Edo State project propelled by the vision of Governor Obaseki and it hurts the APC that this is just one of the several projects designed to create jobs for our teeming youths. Instead of them to be happy with the achievements of Godwin Obaseki led PDP governmeny, they have come up with all sorts of narratives and I think as it's said in local parlance, 'e dey pepper them'. We all have to encourage this government is to do more when it comes back for a second term", he said.
While thanking the Enijie and people of Edo Central Senatorial District for the warm reception accorded  Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP campaign team, Nehikhare assured the people of more projects when voted back into office stressing that project execution is the hallmark of the party.
"We visited the Enijie, we commissioned projects that have been completed and done by this government, and to the disappointment of our opponent they were surprised to see the Onojie of Irrua and Okaijiesan of Esanland reeling out projects that were executed and commissioned in his domain. This is the hallmark of our government, we are not noise makers, but silent achievers".

Accord Party Drops His Ambition to Support Obaseki.

It was a campaign of class, novelty and style at Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State as Governor Godwin Obaseki went about campaigning with what he has done for the good people area rather than reciting a codification of statements of intentions that are not worth the paper on which they are couched, like many of our conventional politicians.

After receiving royal blessings from the Onojie of Ekpoma Kingdom, HRH Anthony Ehizogie Aburime II, Governor Obaseki and his campaign team went around Ekpoma town to personally witness the commissioning of the Idumebo-Ihumudumu-Royal Market Road constructed by his administration. Also commissioned is the Ujuolen Road, constructed and delivered in record time by the Obaseki's purposeful administration.
While carrying out the ritual, Senator Clifford Ordia who conducted the commissioning alongside Hon. Joe Edionwele under the supervision of Governor Obaseki and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, noted that the people of Ekpoma and indeed all those who plied the said road before the intervention of the Governor saw hell because of the deplorable situation the road was plunged into as a result of years of neglect.

Engr. Ordia  while  applauding the Governor for not neglecting Esan land in his project distributions as witnessed in the regime of his predecessor, noted that the Governor's good works will garner the needed votes to win Esan land for PDP in the Gubernatorial Election.

The high point of the campaign saw the Governorship Candidate of Accord Party shelving his ambition to accommodate that of Governor Godwin Obaseki. The Accord Party's Candidate, Comrade Godday Idahosa who led thousands of his party members and supporters to join forces with Obaseki in PDP told the excited crowd that upon careful evaluation of the achievements already recorded by the Governor as were brought to his knowledge in greater perspective by the trio of Hon. Joe Edionwele, Engr. Gideon Ikhine and Hon. Felix Akhabue  he has come to the informed conclusion that the only reasonable thing to do at the moment is for all well meaning people of Edo State to support the reelection bid of Obaseki in order to enable him consolidate on the unprecedented gains so far recorded by his Government.
While urging the people of Esan West to reward Obaseki's laudable achievements with their votes, Chief Dan Osi Orbih reminded the people that "The problems created by Adams Oshiomole before his departure from Osadebey Avenue cannot and will never be solved by the now questionable Simple Agenda of the opposition." He equally added that the call for Simple Agenda has now become obsolete since Obaseki's MEGA and Practical Agenda is already addressing the challenges confronting the State, perfectly well.

Both the Onojie of Ekpoma and that of Ujogba, HRH Solomon Ojeaga were unanimous in their submissions and prayers that the assessments of their subjects have revealed that the Governor will get 99% of the votes from their Kingdom and the whole of Esan land. They noted that a quick glance at the caliber of political leaders, such as Senator Clifford Ordia, Hon. Joe Edionwele, Hon. Felix Akhabue, Engr. Gideon Ikhine and many others supporting the Governor from Esan land and other regions of Edo State show that the Governor is set for a resounding victory at the polls.

EDO 2020: Governor Obaseki Second Term Ambition 'A Blessing in Disguise' - Hon. Aguele

By Simeon OSAJIE

The Executive Chairman Esan South-East local government council Hon. Peter Aguele  has described the second term ambition of the people's Governor "A Blessing in Disguise ".

The council Boss made this known while addressing hundreds of supporters across the riverine communities in the council area in continuation of his street to streets campaign for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki/Comrade Philip Shaiubu for a second term.
Hon. Aguele without missing words told the people that Governor Godwin Obaseki's government is the best thing that has ever happened to Edo state but re-electing him for a second term in office will be a blessing in disguise  and call on everyone to remember how difficult things were before his assumption of office as Governor prior to 2016 when compared to their present standard of living.

The Council Boss having elougised the stalling qualities of the wake and see Governor also took his time to enumerate the achievements of his excellency  since the last three and half years as Executive Governor of Edo state and urged them to encourage the Governor to do more by reciprocating his   performance by voting massively for the umbrella (People's Democratic party) on September 19th 2020 bearing in mind  "One Good Tenure Deserves Another" and  He that says thank you, is indirectly asking for More"
In response the people who spoke through  their community head assured the council Chairman of their unwavering supports for the Executive Governor and vowed to cast every single votes for the Governor come the 19th of September 2020, They further sang a special song to appreciate the Chairman meaning  " where ever he (Hon Peter Aguele) goes there they will be also and his candidates shall be their candidates" finally they thanked the council Boss for his people's friendly government and open door policy that allows everyone equal access to him without discrimination and for bringing government's presence to their communities. While the council Boss on his part promised to do more for the community but again pleaded with them not to let him down come 19th September 2020,  He urged  them to kindly come out and vote for the People's Democratic party.

EDO 2020: Edo Professionals Decry Rising Incidence of Violence, Ploy to Subvert Will of Voters at Guber Poll

condemn attack on Obaseki’s convoy, failed takeover of Assembly, others.

…insist Edo voters not timid, will protect their vote

By Simeon OSAJIE
A coalition of Edo Professionals under the aegis of Unuedo Renaissance has expressed worry over the alarming rise in incidence of violence ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state, noting that voters in the state are not timid and will resist attempts by some politicians to subvert the will of the people at the poll.

In a statement, the non-political group of professionals of Edo origin, lamented that the state which enjoyed relative peace and prosperity in the last three and a half years, is on account of the forthcoming election, being stirred in the direction of violence, noting:  “Well known political thugs and hoodlums who had remained silent this entire period have suddenly found their voices again and their use to intimidate our citizens is most unwelcoming and we condemn it in the strongest terms.”

The group also condemned the attack on the convoy of the Edo State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Godwin Obaseki as well as the failed takeover of the Edo State Assembly by members of the All Progressives Congress, adding: “We note with dismay and condemn in its entirety the rampant violent activities that the state is witnessing in the build up to the election. The entire state is in a heightened state of insecurity, occasioned by reckless conduct on the part of the supporters of key political actors in the state.

“We have also witnessed the bizarre attempts to turn the State House of Assembly into a battle ground, with the attendant consequence of threatening order and good governance in the state.

“We have seen massive attacks on the homes of our citizens, campaign billboards have wantonly been defaced or destroyed, kidnapping of perceived political opponents for whatever reason, has now reared its head again. Even the Governor's convoy has not been spared these brazen attacks by hoodlums, and the state is being pushed in the direction of anarchy.”

Some members of the group are Mr. Emmanuel Ijewere, Chief Lawson Omokhodion, Mr. Hector Etomi, Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Mr. Allan Omorogbe, Mr. Moses Aroko, Mr. Henry Omoragbon, Mr. Nuhu Yakubu and Barr. George Etomi.

Others are Chief (Dr) Pascal Ebhohimen, Mr. Isaac Ogbeide, Mr. Sam Obaze, Chief Albert Iyorah, Mr. Mike Osime, Mr. Celey Okogun, Mr. Soni Irabor, Mr. Macaulay Iyayi, Barr. Osayaba Giwa-Osagie, Barr. Kede Aihie Esq. (London) and Mrs. Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun.

The statement further reads: “We have always called for issue-based campaigns and that candidates should run on their records and convince the people about their suitability to lead them. No thuggery, no reckless conduct and no anarchy.

"Elections are designed in a democracy to be used as a peaceful means for the electorate to decide their leaders, and thereafter retain or transfer power peacefully. We find it inexcusable that after over twenty (20) years of the return to democracy in Nigeria, blatant acts of thuggery, voters' intimidation and total recklessness still attend this process.”

Calling for a peaceful, fair and credible poll, the Edo professionals said: “We use this medium to call on the Presidency, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies including the Police, to ensure that we do not continue to be a laughing stock in the eyes of the international community as a people who cannot manage a process that should usher in peace and trust through the choices we make. If the European Union and the United States of America have raised concerns about the violence in Edo State, we should do no less to ensure that we live up to the expectations of our citizens and the international community.

“We call upon the candidates of the leading parties to understand that they can only govern peacefully if they sow the seeds of peace during this election. Edo State has always been an exemplary state and we must protect our reputation for housing some of the most hardworking citizens of this country. While we also want to assure them that our citizens are not timid and will protect their votes, INEC should encourage voters to guard and protect their votes.

“We challenge them to publicly call their followers to order and to renounce the use of violence in the campaigns and for the security forces to arrest any such deviants.”

“On our part as professionals, we will continue to look out for what is best for our state and it is our intention to invite the key actors to sign a peace accord to guarantee a violence-free election so that no Edo citizen is maimed or loses their life or property on account of their inalienable right to choose their leaders,” it added.

EDO 2020: PDP Rejects the Redeployment of NSCDC Boss

By Simeon OSAJIE
The Edo State People's Democratic Party (PDP) has totally reject the redeployment of Mr. Adeyinka Fasiu Ayinla as the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the State.

In a press statement issued and signed by the State Publicity Secretary &
Chairman, Sub-Committee Media & Publicity Edo 2020 Campaign Council, Chris Osa Nehikhare said, "the Edo PDP reinstate its commitment to a peaceful, free and fair governorship election on September 19, 2020. We are, however, taken aback by the resolve of the All Progressives Congress(APC) to win the election by all means foul!"

Nehikhare emphasized that,  "the latest of such evil plot of the APC to win the election through foul and unfair means is the redeployment of Mr Ayinla as the commandant of the NSCDC. The posting by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is politically motivated and a plot to rig the governorship election.

"The new state commandant is a lackey of a leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and has worked closely with him in the past. Findings also showed that the new Edo NSCDC head is of a rank that is above his new posting as state commandant.

"What then could make Ogbeni Aregbesola, himself Tinubu's man Friday, post Ayinla to Edo? We are convinced that Mr Ayinla may have been posted to Edo to do dirty jobs for the APC.

"Only this week, Nigerians watched a short video of a former national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, telling the Chief of Staff to President Buhari to arrest some people. We had previously watched with disdain how the candidate of APC was inciting and motivating thugs that referred to themselves as lions and tigers to cause disruption and maximum carnage on Election Day. Today, they are posting a personal nominee of Tinubu to superintend elections in Edo. ...If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, there is only one conclusion, It is a DUCK!

"Shame they want to compromise the NSCDC to gain undue influence.

"With the turn of events and revelations, we are skeptical of the plans the APC led federal government have for INEC, Police and other security agencies.

The Edo PDP SPS therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari to call his party men to order. "Edo people want their votes to count and they are prepared to defend their votes. No amount of intimidation or threat will scare them from exercising their rights."

"We advice leaders of the Edo APC to focus on marketing their candidate instead of concentrating on plots to rig and scuttle the forthcoming election", the statement concluded.

Fresh Uncertainties as Two Former Edo APC Governors dump Ize-Iyamu, Oshiomhole Align with Obaseki

By Simeon OSAJIE
The All Progressives Congress (APC) may be facing uncertainties in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State as two former APC governors shun the electioneering campaign of the party. The two former Edo governors, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former APC National Chairman, were said to have dumped the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, abandoning them to the party’s governorship campaign.

Some stakeholders in Edo State told the9jatrend that the two former governors declared their support for incumbent Governor Obaseki when he was in the APC. They were with him in the battle for the APC governorship ticket to the point that the Oshiomhole cabal in the party disqualified Obaseki from contesting the party’s primary election during the screening of aspirants. The autocratic action culminated in the removal of Oshiomhole within 36 hours of the disqualification of Obaseki as APC national chairman.

The stakeholders maintained that the two former governors insist on standing by the decision to support Obaseki in the September 19 governorship election.

Oyegun had cautioned of the severe consequences of using the APC structures by Oshiomhole to eliminate incumbent Governor Obaseki from the governorship race on the platform of the party.

Odigie-Oyegun who was appointed a member of the APC Campaign Council for the Edo governorship election shunned the APC campaign takeoff which brought several APC governor to Edo State penultimate week. Former Governor Osunbor was also absent at the campaign kickoff. Both former governors have continued to ignore the Ize-Iyamu, Oshiomhole campaign on the APC platform.

While they are still APC members, they were said to have aligned with incumbent Governor Obaseki; their supporters, friends, and political allies were said to be with them for Obaseki.

Moreover, several card-carrying APC members in Edo State were said to be supporting the incumbent governor in the election.
the9jatrend gathered that all former governors in Edo State with the exception of Oshiomhole, are supporting incumbent Governor Obaseki. Oshiomhole is apparently a lone ranger in the electioneering campaign of the APC in Edo State.

There were indications that more defections from APC to PDP could occur in Edo State about two to three weeks to the September 19 governorship election.
