"Ikoro Primary School was founded in 1917. So, automatically Ikoro has been in existing before the school was founded.

"Our church, Baptist Church was founded in 1880. What that mean is that, if you are talking about those that are settlers, l think Obazuwa are the main settler here."

Going further, Comrade Ebiwana added, "this Obazuwa have be beating drum of war, we have be telling the security agencies, Edo State governor to call them to order. Our quietness should not be taken for granted by Obazuwa people. We just want the law to take its course. But, if the issue is not resolve amicably and Obazuwa people still continue to harass our people and our developers, we will react.

"In all ramification, in any form they think they can withstand us, we are ready. We don't run for our fears, we face our fears. We have, on several fora, aired our views in the media, we also wrote to Edo State government through Secretary to State Government (SSG) to come resolve this dispute.

When asked why not resolve the dispute in a round table discussion, Comrade Sam Ebiwana said, "initially, we have the mind to resolve this issue in a round table discussion, but the so-called Obazuwa people are not even ready for dialogue, they felt that we are settlers and they don't have anything to discuss with us, that the land belong to them, that we should leave.

"We are Pare of Oladiama Kingdom, which here Ikoro is the headquarters of Oladiama Kingdom and our Pere, the king of Olodiama Kingdom leaves here in Ikoro Community. So, the way they (the Obazuwa) have their Enogies and Oba, the same way we have our king.

"The Oba of Benin who we respect so much and hold in high esteem, the same way we also expect the Obazuwa to have respect for our Pere. The way we have value for their Oba, so also the way they should have value for our Pere."

Speaking to The9JaTREND, a woman leader in the community, Mrs. Florence Olushemi said, "Obazuwa people came to meet us here. I am calling on Edo State Governor. Mr. Godwin Obaseki to beg Obazuwa people to leave us one, they should allow us to have peace, Ikoro is our own."

Save Obazuwa Community From Ijaw Settlers - Pa Oyemwense Appeals To Oba Of Benin

By The9jaTREND

The Obazuwa Community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State has called on Benin monarch,  His Royal Majesty, Omo N' Oba N' Edo, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom to come to their rescue as Ijaw settlers in Obazuwa Community have taken over their farm, selling their land and at the same tine depriving them from going to their farm.

The called was made today, the 23rd day of July, 2021 at the Obazuwa Community Town Hall in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State.

Addressing newsmen, the Odionwere of the Community, Pa. Aimuamwenosa Oyemwense, said that since the existence of Obazuwa Community, they have never experience any conflict with neighbouring communities.

"What we are experiencing in our community is something that is baffling us. The people who we allowed as settlers (Ijaws) in Iko Community who are Uzon have taken over Obazuwa Community. They went to fight the Benins in Gelegele Community, and they now turn to us. They are settlers and cannot lay claim to our land.

"I have never in my life hear that Uzon owed any land in Benin Kingdom. What they are known for is fishery in our river (Ovia river). We allowed them to settled in our community because we are peace loving people. We thought we can leave together in harmony but reverse is the case.

"The initial place we agreed for the Ijaws to settle is known as Iko. They later moved towards the riverine area, they went and climbed the hill to the riverine area to settled. Our Ezomon then was the first person who was leaving in the riverine area of our community before the Ijaws went to joined him.

"It may interest you to note that the resident of  Odionwere of Iko Community was burnt and levelled down by the Ijaw settlers.

"Since the existence of Iko Community, we have had about 5 Odionwere and there have never be any dispute between the Benins and Iko Community, neither have there be any dispute whatsoever.  We have be farming together as brothers and sisters.

"Whenever we go to farm, the Ijaw settlers chased us with guns and weapons, we cant go to our farmland, we sleep with our eye open because we afraid they might attack us in the night."

Going further, Pa. Oyemwense added, "Sometime ago, when l was traveling to Benin City to see His Royal Majesty. Oba Ewuare II, l received a call that Ijaws are fighting labourers my wife took to the farm.

"We have been on this struggle for decade and we finally secured judgement against the Ijaws some time ago. Even with the judgment, they are still fighting us, we have nobody to cry to hence we are appealing to our Royal Father, Ova of Benin to come to our rescue."

"The Benins who are the rightful owner of Obazuwa Community land are gradually turning to become tenants in their land," he emphasized.

Also speaking, Mr. Andrew Ohenhen opined, "this is our Obazuwa Community were l grew up to know that the community belong to the Benins.  The name Obazuwa was given to this community by the then Oba of Benin Kingdom. The land belong to Obazuwa not Ijaws (Uzon) who are settlers."

Speaking on behalf of the women of Obazuwa Community, Mrs. Anna Igbinobun said,  I was given birth in this community and we have never experience what is happening now.  Ijaw who are settlers in Iko community  are claiming that they owed Obazuwa Community. How is that possible?

"We do trade by barter with Ijaw settlers in Iko Community with the exchange of garri, yam and oil for fish.

"We are begging our Royal father, our reverend Oba,  Oba Ewuare II to come to our rescue. We can't sleep with our eye open again for fear of being attack by the Ijaw settlers in Obazuwa community, we don't  go to farm again, they have sold our land and we have no where to farm again. Come to our  rescue our great Oba,  Oba Ewuare II."

It Is Embarrassing For Ijaw Settlers To Claim Ownership Of Iko Community - BSM

By The9jaTREND

Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide has warned Ijaws settlers in Iko Community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State to stop false claim of ownership of the Community.

This was contained in a press briefing  addressed by Henry Igbinosun,  member of the Eecutive of Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, and son of the late Edionwere today in Benin City.

He said, "BSM address with disdain the television broadcast of ITV News on the 21st July, 2021 by a self acclaimed Ijaw Group, IYC Chairman, Comrade Sam Ebiwana of the blackmail and character assassination of some elements in Iko which has been corrupted in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

"These elements majorly settlers with some betraying Benins has resorted to accusing the people of Obazuwa Community who are aborigines as trouble making people; this is a claim that is far from the truth because Iko Community is controlled by the Enogie of Obazuwa in Ovia North-East Local Government Area who is the representative of the Oba of Benin as the Traditional Chief of the locality.

"From history, the Ijaws benefited from the large heart of the Oba of Benin who gave them a settlement in their fishing business, but they have now become major land rivals, which they have termed to be their ancestral land. The questions that these groups of people should be asked is where the Ijaws who are noted around the world as fishermen did became farmers who now own large expanse of land criminally acquired all in the guise of using the lands for farming.

"These rabble rousers should be told in simple language that their adaption of false information, blackmail and character assassination cannot wipe away history no matter how hard they try."

Going further, he added, "Let us sound it very loud and clear to the Tjaw settiers who vis-a-vis are customary tenants to the Oba of Benin KINGDOM that there is no town or community in Benin Kingdom called Ikoro in Ovia North-East Loca Government Area of Edo State.

"And they should also know that they are Not the only tribes that are settled in that locality and for all we care the irritant IYC may be talking of a community that is situated in Bayelsa State acclaimed as homogenous Ijaw State.

"The brains behind the pseudo IYC are obviously criminal land grabbers and should be called to order immediately before they foolishly drag their kinsmen into a dragnet of no return as far as the Iko Community issue is concerned

"Let it be known to the Ijaws that they are settlers in Benin Kingdom and our Great Oba of Benin KINGDOM is the Overlord of all the Lands in the Kingdom.

"The fact the Benins are accommodating should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness by these miscreants who hide under different aliases and groups to trigger crisis which will end up consuming them.

"We are been stretched to the limit and it will be a matter of good judgment if they call themselves to order now before it is too late

"They should also be informed that we are not contesting anything with them as regards their Ikoro. Our area of interest lies within our territory, Iko Community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State where we have over the years accommodated them and other tribes as it is our nature to be good host

"The so-called IYC should be reasonable enough now to change their steps in this macabre dance that they have inadvertently forced themselves into; for nobody has the monopoly of violence.

"For the strides of a gentle leopard should not be taken for granted. Obazuwa Community has been in existence before the reign of Oba Ewuare I in 1440 and it is embarrassing for strangers cum criminal land grabbers to say otherwise," the statement opined.

Unite Nigeria With Your Music - Desmond Ogie Urges Artistes

By The9JaTREND

Nigerian South Africa based Hip Hop Artiste, Desmond Omoregbe Ogie, has called on fellow artistes to use their music to unite the country due to the unabated level of insecurity ravaging the country and the call for secession from various quarters in the country.

He gave the call while speaking on his plan to launch his single track musical album titled "Africa" on July 23. 2021

Ogie, whose stage name is "Mr. Five", said the artistes have an enormous role to play in unifying the country and give a sense of hope and and direction to Nigerians because many have given up on the country due to the high level of insecurity and hardship.

"Music is very powerful we can use the music  to change the situations of insecurity and bad governance in Nigeria.

"They should always send messages of hope and unity in their songs because people are losing interest in the country because of insecurity and bad governance", he said

The Edo State born artiste said the country is so blessed with both human and natural resources but its bane is leadership noting that his love for Nigeria and Africa spurred him to put up the music "Africa" and that all hands must be on the deck to make it great again.

"My humble appeal to the government and other Nigerians is that, we all have to put hands together and make Nigeria a better place because it’s all of us that will enjoy it if the place is great again.

"I want Africa to improve, I want it to compete with other continents. we have everything that can make it a great continent", he said.

He called on the Nigerian government to provide a conductive atmosphere for the artistes to thrive by granting them free loans and wave off all the bottlenecks militating against the Nigerian artistes.

BENIN ARTEFACTS: Federal, State Govts Have No Rights To Keep The Artefacts, Says BSM

By The9JaTREND

Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide has reiterated the fact that the Benin artefacts were taken from the Palace of the Oba of Benin by the British Invaders and emphasized that the Federal and State governments do not have any rights or obligation to keep the Benin Artefacts but to return them to the rightful owner - Oba of Benin Kingdom.

President of the Movement, Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and the Acting Secretary General, Mrs. Esohe Adun, gave the advise while reacting to a newspaper publication dated 15th July, 2021 by a proxy group that goes by the name IGUN-IGBESANWAN-OWINA DESCENDANTS CULTURAL MOVEMENT OF EUROPE AND AMERICA and signed by Erhauyi Isokponwu and Adolor Oviasu-Oreoghene respectively claiming that 75 percent of the artefacts belong to them.

The Movement doubt if the group is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and also to know the identity of both individuals that signed the publication.

"We want to set the record straight for them to understand the history of the Great Benin Kingdom, which they seem not to be familiar with, according to their publication.

"It is a known fact that the Benin Artefacts were taken from the Palace of the Oba of Benin by the British Invaders and not at IGUN, IGBESAMWAN and OWINA as claimed by the publication and it is also a known fact that those artefacts were not taken from their various homes because, according to the history told us by our grandparents, those artefacts (mainly Benin Bronzes) were made at various locations and were brought to the Oba Palace and they were paid for by the Oba of Benin, and they served various purposes while some were used to decorate the Palace.

"It is also an obvious fact that if Benin Kingdom did not loss the battle, the British could have not been able to create the country Nigeria.

"The Benin sovereignty spread from the Heart of Benin to Lagos, Dahomey now Republic of Benin even to part of Ghana, Ga tribe of Ghana are Benins. All Deltas are part of Benin so Benin was the only barrier for the British Invaders; The year 1914 that the exiled king of Benin join his ancestors that same year British amalgamated the South and North to form Nigeria publicly declare it is no longer the King of Benin that is the King but the white man.

"The then first Governor General of the new country called Nigeria was Lord Lugard, his wife suggested the name Nigeria for the new country with a British flag and currency British Pounds. The British tried all their possible best to reduce the power of the Benin Kingdom to the North Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba that they trained and took along during their war with Benin Empire," the statement opined.

Two Suspects In Police Custody In Attempt To Kidnap Zenith Bank Manager

By The9JaTREND

In an attempt to kidnap Mr. Raphael Ibodeme, Branch Manager of Zenith Bank Plc, Ekpoma, Esan West local government area of Edo State, two suspects are in police custody over the foils plan.

Following a tip off,  two suspects were arrested in Ekpoma by men of the Edo State Police Command.

One of the suspects, Felix Alika who is a security staff of the Bank was caught by the police in the web of lies as he raised unfounded allegation against the victim.
The police said the allegation was to create an escape route for the suspects against prosecution.

The9jaTrend gathered  that the Bank Manager, Mr. Raphael lbodeme and the security staff of the Bank, Felix Alika have been having a running battle in the bank over promotion issue.

There has been high level of  insubordination which made the said Mr. lbodeme to take some administrative decisions.

The quarrel was said to have allegedly prompted the Felix Alika to connect one Akhere who was to hire other heinous gang members to kidnap the victim. Basiru Suleiman was then allegedly contacted to join in the move to kidnap the said Mr. Ibodeme.

Few days to execute the kidnapping operation,  Akhere changed his mind and reported the matter to the Police at Ekpoma.

This report prompted the police to arrest the security staff, Mr. Felix Alika as his plan to kidnap a Bank manager.

Police findings revealed that, for the suspect to reveal to the police his involvement in the plan to kidnap the Bank manager, he raised false  alarm that the Bank boss is a criminal too.
.
Police findings further revealed that, instead of the said suspect Felix Alika who is the security guard to explain his role in the incident,  he chose to embark on blackmail of the Bank Manager.

He allegedly raised false allegation that the said Bank Manager is an armed robber, accusing him of been behind the attacks in some banks in Edo state. But the police viewed his allegation as a move to divert investigation.  The police wondered why he did not raise the allegation before now until his recent arrest for alleged attempt to kidnap the said Mr Ibodeme.

According to the security staff,  "Yes,  l can confirm that Mr. Ibodeme, the Bank Manager and myself have been having quarrel for some time now".

When contacted, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer,  SP Bello Kontongs said "The report from Anti-kidnapping squad in our command said the security guard, Felix Alika lied against Mr. Raphael Ibodeme".

He assured that,  the two suspects will be charged to court for attempted Kidnapping.

Edo State police authority has ordered thorough investigation into the viral video of the fake alarm raised by the said security man.

Face The Affairs of Governance - BSM Tells Gov. Obaseki

...as Obaseki Pulses Traditional Rulers Allocation

By The9jaTrend

Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide has called on Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to face the affairs of governance and cautioned him over the alleged stoppage of  monthly federal allocation to Traditional Council in the state.

In a press statement issued and signed by the President of the Movement, Elder Curtis Eghosa Ugbo accused Governor Obaseki stopping the monthly stipends as an action which has vigorously affected the payment of the salaries of workers in the employment of the Traditional rulers.

"The attention of the Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) worldwide has been drawn to the recent action of the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, stopping the payment of Traditional Rulers monthly stipends as an action which has vigorously affected the payment of the salaries of workers in the employment of the Traditional Rulers.

"Godwin Obaseki's directive to the Local Government Councils, stopping them from paying the Traditional Rulers stipends is seen by the Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) as a way of confronting the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare11 N'Ogidigan, a fallout of the ongoing issue of Benin Artefacts ownership and control.

"Governor Obaseki should be told in clear terms that his actions are under watch and he should know that he would in the long run be accountable for his actions.

"It is high time he is told that he should squarely face the affairs of State Governance which he was voted to administer and keep off issues of royalty and traditional rulership.

"The soon to be returned stolen Benin Artefacts are of the Benin Heritage and only the Omo N'Oba N'Edo is the custodian of Benin Culture and Tradition or his representative can handle it on behalf of the Benin People.

"For the umpteenth time we are advising Godwin Obaseki to stay clear of issues relating to the Benin Custom and Tradition so that he will not get his scalp burn in this his incessant interferences," the statement concluded.

When contacted, most traditional rulers  in the state who spoke under anonymity said they have not received June monthly stipend as the state government claim auditing the local government account.
