Oyegun, Ehanire Are Not Members Of APC, says Elamah

By Simeon OSAJIE

All Progressives Congress (APC) Leaders in ward II Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State have denied membership claims by the former National Chairman of the Party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire with a threat to suspend them for anti-party activities.

Reacting to the revalidation of the duo’s membership, the Legal Adviser of the party in Oredo Local Government Area, Johnson Osemwegie Elamah said: “I don’t see those two people as APC members. They were members of the APC before they betrayed the party.

“They were members of the APC and voted for the PDP during the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state.

"What I will advice them to do is for them to come and declare officially that they’re coming back to us because they have already left for PDP.

“Chief John Odigie-Oyegun contributed to the problem in the APC today, he pretended to be with APC yet he was fighting the party. He promised to bring everybody together as he was a father of all.

“But when APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, went to him (Oyegun), he refused to receive him. Rather, when Godwin Obaseki paid a similar visit to him he welcomed him with both arms.

“We are suspending both Chief Oyegun and Dr. Ehanire from the APC through the ward executives. They’re already working on it. They’re no longer members of the APC. What have they contributed to the party? Let them tell us.

“Why we aren’t bothered is that somebody like Oyegun doesn’t have political relevance. He has never won his ward. Go and check the records. I know of very many national chairmen that have been in different parties. If they don’t win their state or national poll they at least win their wards. But this man cannot even win his merit.

On revalidation of APC membership done by Chief Oyegun, Elemah said it was invalid as the registered members’ list for ward 2 unit 2 which was supposed to capture Chief Oyegun was in the possession of the unit head, Evelyn Iyamu, who was faraway in Iyekogba where she was registering party members who couldn’t come into the metropolis to do the exercise.

“Where did Oyegun get the register from? The register was at Iyekogba. I just brought the unit head back from there. Oyegun registered in unit 1 which is against the party’s instruction that everybody should go to their various units to register.

“But instead of him going to ward 2 unit 2 he went to unit 1. The implication is that he did an invalid registration.”

Prince Blessing Edigin, the Vice-Chairman of APC ward 2 Oredo Local Government Area, said: “I am so shocked that a responsible man like Chief Oyegun would not know the right thing to do at the right time.

“To my shock I heard that he was registered at unit 1 which is against the rules and regulations of our party. Oyegun is not a member of APC.

“Nobody knows the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire in his ward. He has ceased to be a member of APC in ward 2. If Oyegun wants to come to APC he should enter through the right door.

“Now that we’re building the APC we don’t need any distraction or anybody who will divert our attention.”

Evelyn Iyamu, the APC ward 2 unit 2 head, reechoed Elemah’s statement saying that Chief Oyegun does not know her and have never met her.

Earlier, while responding to reporters inquiries Dr. Ehanire expressed confidence in the revalidation exercise, saying: “Chief Oyegun and myself are members of the merger committee that brought the APC to life when the negotiation took place to join three political parties we were there. We were there at the inception at the birth of APC.

“Therefore, we are among the oldest members here because we were at the ward when it was born at the maternity and now that it is being revalidated we are very pleased to be here to do the revalidation together.

“So, it is a very joyful moment. And I believe this should be the beginning of the renewal of the party in Edo State and in Nigeria.”

Chief Oyegun in his comment said: “We want to know who is APC so that as we move forward everybody who registers during this period would be reconfirmed, dedicated and passionate members of the APC."

Colonel (Rtd) David Imuse, chairman of the caretaker committee of the party said that the revalidation exercise shows that the party is moving forward.

Benin Solidarity Movement Begs NBA To Call Barr. Afolabi To Order

By Simeon OSAJIE

.      Elder Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo
              President, Benin Solidarity
                      Movement (BSM)

Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, has call on the National and Edo State leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)  to call Barr. Olayinwola Afolabi to order in view of his romance with Chief Johnson Atseleghe, the Ityasere of Warri, the principal suspect for the alleged conspiracy, kidnapping and murder of Sunny Etchie, the Okhaigele of Kolokolo community.

In an interview with newsmen in Benin,  President of the Movement, Elder Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo said he hired the services of Barr. Olayinwola Afolabi to help prosecutes Chief Atseleghe and 7 Others for alleged conspiracy, kidnapping and murder Sunny Etchie, Okheigele of Kolokolo Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

Elder Ugbo said, "Last week, the O.C. Legal at the AIG office called to inform me that there is a petition against me. When l asked who was the brain behind the petition, he said until I come to the office he was not going to reveal who wrote the petition. In view of my time scheduled l could not make it to the O.C. office last week.

"On Wednesday this week, (24th February, 2021), l was with the O. C. legal at the AIG office  to respond to the petition. It was their l discovered that Barr. Afolabi wrote the petition that l am accusing him for collecting money from Chief Johnson Atseleghe, the principal accused suspect.

"In the petition, he (Barr. Afolabi) stated that he went to Oko Prison (Correctional Centre) to see one of his client only for him to be call by the D.C. of Oko Prison, one Mr. Godwin to meet with Chief Johnson Atseleghe.

"He said that Mr. Godwin, the D. C. of Oko Prison took him to his office to meet with Atseleghe and they sat down to discuss. After the discussion, Chief Johnson Atseleghe offered him an envelop which he said he refused to collect.

Going further, Elder Ugbo added, "I wasn't there and wouldn't know if there was an attempt to receive envelop or whether the said envelop was collected from Chief Johnson Atseghele.

“I was the one that briefed him on behalf of  Benin Solidarity Movement Wordwide,(BSM), and there was an amount agreed which is N10 million; l personally paid the sum of N4 million into his account through my personal account on behalf of the Benin Solidarity Movement Worldwide.

"I suspected something was fishing from Barr. Ofolabi's attitude because he started behaving funny. I have no option than to debrief him.

"To my greatest surprise, Barr. Afolabi was still coming to court even after I had debriefed him to hands off the case.

"I was also surprised the day Chief Johnson Atseleghe was granted bail, l saw the excitement in the face of Barr. Afolabi, he was so happy and I became worried.

"My suspicious became true that Barr. Afolabi has already betrayed my confident and trust in him until l saw the said petition at the O.C. Legal office written by Afolabi. In the petition that he wrote with his hand that he went to Oko Prison to see our principal suspect inside the prison.

"I want to ask the National and the Edo State leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) that, is it ethical,  professional for a lawyer that is on the side of the complainant to go and sit down at the Oko Prison with a suspect, the principal accused suspect in a conspiracy, kidnapping and murder case.

"What would have lead to the principal accused suspect offering Barr. Afolabi envelop which he claimed he refused to collect," Elder Ugbo.

Adding to Barr. Ofolabi suspension, Elder Ugbo said, "Two weeks ago he brought up a FIAT saying it was the family that briefed him, only for us to discover that it was a distant family uncle of the late Sunny Eitche, but luckily the wife of the late Sunny Eitche was present in court that day and the court did the right thing by throwing away the so-called FIAT.

In a telephone interview by the9trend  to get his reaction, Barr. Olayewole Afolabi said, "I cannot react to a mere oral accusation. I want a written press statement before l can respond.

Marginalization Of Christians In Federal Appointments Is Unacceptable, Says Dr. Omobude

By Simeon OSAJIE

.               Rev (Dr.) Felix Omobude
                        PFN President

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has condemned in strong terms the glaring marginalization of Christians in appointments into federal government offices by the Buhari-led government.

In a statement issued and signed by the National President of the Fellowship, Rev. (Dr.) Felix Omobude, stated that the government actions could further negativity affect the unity of the country.

He noted that Nigeria has never been as divided the way it is now under the present administration.

Dr. Omobude, stated that the PFN was most saddened with the on-going appointment exercise in the judiciary where only adherents of a particular religion are favoured for appointment as Court of Appeal Justices at the expense of merit and equity.

The PFN leader expressed displeasure that over the years, some Nigerian politicians and top government functionaries have hijacked religion to continue to fester their desires to pursue their selfish ambition.

According to Dr. Omobude, “PFN is deeply saddened that out of 13 nominees from the Northern part of the country for elevation to the Court of Appeal, not a single Christian is among them.

“This unacceptable situation has further buttressed the fact that the nation’s judicial system has been hijacked, politicized and an object of ridicule.

“This is one of the reasons why some Nigerians are fast losing confidence in the nation’s judicial process.

"The PFN hereby calls on President Muhammadu Buhari and all those concerned in the appointment of Justices to the nation's Court of Appeal, to revisit the issue and ensure that fairness and justice are done irrespective of religious and ethnic background.

“The PFN will not continue to bemoan such brazen acts of provocation and unfairness, as the Fellowship will henceforth take all necessary lawful steps to defend and protect the interests of its marginalized members.

“PFN has always called for justice, fairness and equity in all governmental activities because to subvert a man of his rights on the basis of his religion is corruption.

“PFN once again, calls on president Mohammadu Buhari to stand by his promise that he is for every Nigerian because the country belong to all Nigerians.

“PFN also therefore called on President Buhari to quickly call on whosoever is concerned to correct the imbalance in the on-going appointment to the Court of Appeal and every other areas of government where imbalance exist”, Dr. Omobode opined.

30bn Benin Stormwater Project Was Conceived To Defraud Edo People, Says Obaseki

...‘We’ll Hold All Those Responsible To Account’

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the N30 billion Benin stormwater project by the previous administration in the state was a ploy to defraud Edo people.

The governor made the submission while inspecting the Textile Mill Road catchment of the project, in Benin City, Edo state capital.

He said the stormwater project, which was conceived by the previous administration, was designed not to work for the benefit of Edo people, adding that his administration will probe the project and recover all the money stolen through it.

"You can see for yourself that the so-called stormwater project was a fraud; it was a contract to defraud Edo people. From what I can see now, the stormwater project in this catchment area was never designed to take water away from the area. The area was never drained. You can see the level of what we are doing now as compared with that of the previous administration,” he said.

Obaseki noted, "It is almost two-meter difference. There is no way you can drain water from a low land into a higher ground. We say we have experts and paid over N30 billion for this project. The person that supervised this project today calls himself a minister supervising bigger projects for the Federal Government. This is not acceptable."

He added that the previous administration spent huge sums of money on the water storm project claiming that on completion, it will drain water from the area and restore the property of Edo people living in that area.

He assured Edo people that his administration will do everything necessary to drain the area and restore life to the people, noting, “They spent N30 billion claiming that they want to take away the suffering of Edo people, de-flood the area and restore value to the people’s property. Look at what has happened now to this project for five years.”

He continued: “With what we have done now with less amount of money, we are going to finally drain this area and bring back life to the people in this catchment area. I don't like probing but this time we have to set up a panel to get the facts of what happened. We can't throw away such a large amount of money. People must be made to account for their time in service in government.

"They have to explain to us how they spent the N30 billion on a project they claim will drain water from a community. But the project drains the water to nowhere. They have the boldness to claim that we abandoned the project which were never made or designed to work in the first place.

"Clearly, we will take the necessary precaution to recover all the money due to Edo people that was stolen from this project.”

By Simeon OSAJIE

Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, has quashed claim by Pro Ijaw group, Izon Ibe Dragnet that, Gelegelegbene is a town or community in Benin Kingdom in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The claim was debunked in a statement issued and signed by Elder Comrade Curtis Eghosa Ugbo, President, Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide, made available to journalists in Benin City.

Elder Ugbo said, ”Ijaws should let it be known that they are settlers in Benin Kingdom, that we, the Benins, are accommodating should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness by those who hide under different aliases and groups to trigger crisis which will end up consuming them."

According to him, "They should be informed that we are not contesting anything with them as regards their Gelegelegbene. Our area of interest lies within our territory, Gelegele in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State where we have over the years accommodated them as it is our nature to be good host."

BSM express worry over  Pro Ijaw group, Izon Ibe Dragnet, to the effect that they claim they are expressing anger over some issues relating to a court case between Ijaws and Benins over Gelegele (which they corrupted to Gelegelegbene).

“Not only that they went as far as casting aspersions on the personalities of some highly respected legal luminaries of Benin extraction.

“Let us sound it very loud and clear to the settler Ijaws that there is no town or community in Benin Kingdom called Gelegelegbene in Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State (a local government area that Izon Ibe Dragnet should suggest to be created in may be Bayelsa State). For all we care the irritant Izon Ibe Dragnet may be talking of a community that is situated in Bayelsa State acclaimed as a homogenous Ijaw State".

Adding that, "the brains behind the pseudo Izon Ibe Dragnet should be called to order immediately before they foolishly drag their kinsmen into a dragnet of no return as far as the Gelegele issue is concerned.

“Ijaws should let it be known that they are settlers in Benin Kingdom, that we, the Benins, are accommodating should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness by these miscreants who hide under different aliases and groups to trigger crisis which will end up consuming them

“We are been stretched to the limit and it will be a matter of good judgment if they call themselves to order now before it is too late.

“They should be informed that we are not contesting anything with them as regards their Gelegelegbene. Our area of interest lies within our territory, Gelegele in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State where we have over the years accommodated them as it is our nature to be good host.

The Izon Ibe Dragnet should be reasonable enough now to change their steps in this macabre dance that they have inadvertently forced themselves into", he opined.

The Pro Ijaw group, Izon Ibe Dragnet, had express anger over some issues relating to a court case between Ijaws and Benins over Gelegele Community.

When elections comes, politicians try to rally around you and give you #2,000. Four years later, they will give you another #2,000. Now, what it means is that, in every year, your value is only #500 then in one month, your value is #41.67 and in one day your value is #1.31.

When you allow somebody determine your faith because of the money you collected, you have no reason to complain if they call us  "LAZY YOUTH" and "POLITICAL THUGS," all because we have mortgaged our future for peanut we collected from the wicked politicians who refused the Nigeria youths to explore their potentials for the development of our great country, Nigeria.

Youths, lets prove to our old aged politicians that we can make the different in governance from large.

Nigeria youths are responsible, capable, intelligent and sensible as it is said in our local parlance "Youths are the leaders of tomorrow". Let's say "NO" to tomorrow -  Our tomorrow is "NOW".

Should we continue to depend on our fathers? Absolutely "NO". Let us come together and retire our fathers back home and start taking care of them, not the other way round.

Hunger is the gift of God to man. "YOU NEED THE HUNGER TO ACTIVATE YOUR CREATIVITY".

The difference between a Vulture and an Eagle is Appetite.

A vulture does not eat food that it kills, it waits for the food to be sick, weak and dead. But, an eagle will kill it's own.

If you have to wake up every morning and wait at a chairman's house from 7am to 7pm for him to give you money, you are suffering from a vulture mentality.

I came here to shake the House.
I came here to Dominate.
I came here to Build.
I came here to tell the Youths that our Tomorrow is NOW, so let wake up to our responsibility and make a positive change.

Abudah: The Flame Blazing in the Corner

By Ijeoma Umeh

       Late Alhaji Usman Daggash Abudah
The Dania of the Sacred Kingdom of Auchi

Usman Abudah. . .I think of him now with a smile as he would sit in his office in the premises of the NUJ Edo state council, flipping through papers and looking out for trouble, for who would mistakenly step on his toes!

A man who had carved a niche for himself as a warrior without guns or knives yet he was feared, hated by some, yet admired by many!

Whenever he appeared at the Congress of the NUJ, albeit, a rare appearance, everyone would sit up, leaders and followers alike, and speeches become ordered and streamlined while body movements become coordinated. No one wanted venom from Alhaji Abudah's palate! He spewed it forth, unmindful of whose ox was gored. He spoke truth to unionism and helped shapen the thought processes of some leaders of the union.

He was a rallying point during elections. If he as much as uttered a word for or against you, then you would already know your fate! "Have you told Alhaji about your ambition?" Aspirants were often asked. Get his support during an election and you have conquered propaganda, for Usman would help you quench the fire of opposition views if you were fortunate to win his heart.

However, don't bank on courting his friendship forever! The guy's mood could be very unpredictable! I am yet to meet a more firebrand journalist whose moods can swing like Alhaji Usman Abudah's!

Don't go to him trying to exchange unnecessary banter, too. He once told a journalist who said he came to greet him, "I hope you have not come to gossip?" And to another he said, "Why are you parambulating the premises of NUJ like a jobless fellow? Is your community paper not producing again?"

Blunt to a fault, cantankerous at times, yet he was a humanitarian. Despite always being on the attack mode, he was always helpful, a humanitarian who helped many journalists through welfare challenges; and like everyone's personal Chi, Usman Abudah would  reprimand you this minute and express his love for you the next! Take the twists of his tongue with calm and perfect equanimity and you had won a true friend! Give him his due respect, and you have him where you want him.

We will miss him, a man who hated nonsense..."look at them...doing nonsense all over the place!" he would often say.

Indeed, we will miss him! Our Union needed someone like him, and God gave him to us. We have learnt so much from his wits, his counsel, his whips, his sharp tongue, his anger, his pain...we have learnt.

God bless his soul and grant him a place in Paradise. Amen.

Edo Not Ceding Any Land For Grazing Cattle, Says SSG

By Simeon OSAJIE

Secretary to State Government (SSG), Barr. Osariodion Ogie has declared that there is no way Edo State will cede any of its land for grazing cattle.

The Edo  SSG disclosed this in a statement he issued and signed on Thursday, 18th of February, 2021.

The SSG said that the government’s position on the matter is clear and has not shifted since it insisted that it would not cede its land to herdsmen.

According to him, “Our attention has been drawn to misleading and false media reports claiming that the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has agreed to provide grazing land for herders in the state.

“Our position on the matter of grazing land is clear and has not shifted, which is that there is no free land for grazing in Edo State. Grazing is an economic activity just like poultry and piggery or any other agricultural enterprise. The Edo State Government will not cede any land in the state for grazing.

“The governor has continually warned against the politicizing of security issues,” he added.

Ogie noted that some political actors are trying to instigate the type of killings witnessed in some states in the country just because they are embittered by the heavy loss they suffered in the political space.

He continued: “Thankfully, their plans have failed because of the pre-emptive actions taken by Governor Obaseki and the security agencies.

“We condemn, in the strongest terms, the current futile efforts by these defeated politicians in the state to cause mayhem and chaos among our people.

“All peace-loving people of Edo State are enjoined to dedicate this Lenten period to pray for peace at this difficult time in the life of our dear country," he urged.

Ngozi Okonji-Iweala's Uncommon Achievement

By Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon

As Africa and indeed the world celebrates the uncommon achievement of our own Mrs. Ngozi Okonji-Iweala as the first black female to sit as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation(WTO), I want to use this opportunity to bring to the fore the problems the girl child is faced with, which are surmountable if careful plans are put in place.

Every day, girls face barriers to education caused by poverty, cultural norms and practices, poor infrastructure and violence. Therefore, their education is supposed to be  a strategic development priority in developing nations like Nigeria.

The Ministry of Education ought to work closely with other sister agencies and development organizations on girls’ education issues to identify and advance interventions that will improve girls’ education outcomes and provide resources for support.

These can come in terms of manpower provisions, reading materials provisions, uniforms provisions, transportation, grants and even feeding while in school. This will help in encouraging the enrolment of the girl child.

There should be tools readily available to identify critical gender disparities and the factors contributing to them while channeling insights into Nigeria's education sector plans.

There should also be research to produce Economic Impacts of Child Marriage in the country. This phenomenon has stopped child education in most parts of the country where kids as young as 8, 9 or so are given out for marriage. It must be discouraged.
As I congratulate this amazon of a woman with an intimidating curriculum vitae, I want her to continue to use her lofty position to shine on the girl child as  to be their moral compass, not just in Nigeria, but all over the world. I am optimistic that with her as an example, the girl child education has prospects.

We Won't Allow Grazing Area For Herdsmen In Edo, Says Patriots Volunteer League

By Simeon OSAJIE

.        Mr. Mikiste Ewansiha-Thomas
               Leader/Coordinator
       Patriots Volunteer League (PVL)

The Patriots Volunteer League (PVL) has advised Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to trade with caution with his recent statement promising to create grazing area for herdsmen in Edo state at the palace of the Iyasere of Udo Community, His Royal Highness, Patrick Ekhorutomwen Igbinidu.

In a statement issued and signed by the Leader/Coordinator of the group, Mr. Mikiste Ewansiha-Thomas said, "Governor Godwin Obaseki is clearly on a wrong lane in his concluding reading of the security situation in Edo State as regard to the role criminal bandits of the herdsmen are playing in the low intensity war of decapitation in many parts of the country especially in Edo state.

"The governor at the palace of the Iyasere of Udo Community, His Royal Highness, Patrick Ekhorutomwen Igbinidu refused to accept holistically the role of foreign criminals in the state.

"Yes we have bandits and kidnappers, but what has now added to the tension is the barbaric low intensity war launched by groups that are led by Fulani Jihadist using the presence and route of the cattle rearer in their heinous crime against humanity.

"Governor Obaseki, the earlier you recognize the existence of Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) and their allied acolytes in our area the better for us all,"  the statement cautioned.

The statement also advised Governor Obaseki to remember the ancient story of promiteus.

"You are a student of classic, remember the ancient story of promiteus it will soon unbound.

"It will unbound as you want to do what most states in Nigeria outside the Fulani/Hausa enclaves refuses to do, that is, you want to provide grazing areas for herdsmen in Edo State. Do you think this will stand?

"Grazing area is Ruga by opposite and it is nothing but a surrender ceremony to those who say bullet, misery and death will give them what they want.

"Grazing like fisheries and other associate ventures are businesses and should remain individual or group ventures.

"At any rate, where does Governor Obaseki want to provide for people who have total disrespect and contempt for the way of life, culture and religion of other people including their host in Edo state?

"Not even in the reserve which is created through careful economic and environment planning.

"However, we the people of Edo state are not  in opposition to the solution of the immediate imbroglio, but will not accept the creation of Ruga coloured as grazing area in any design," the statement concluded.
