We Reform Civil Service, Build Capacity Training, Says EPPA Boss

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Edo State Public Procurement Agency (EPPA) Henry Idogun has listed some gains of the agency since its inception in Edo state and gave the reasons why contracts executed by the Edo State Governments are done with quality materials standard.

Responding to questions from newsmen in his office,  the CEO of EPPA who is also the Managing Director of the agency said the Agency brought sanity into contracting business in the Edo.

He explained that the mandate given to the Agency is to promote transparency, accountability and value for money into governance.

"We have brought sanity into the contracting business in Edo State. When we came on board, we meant contracts awarded to political colonies, some of those projects were abandoned and tracking the projects became difficult.

"As soon as we came on board, we immediately swing into action by creating and sanitizing the registration process of award of contracts, the registration was done in a manner that would be pleasing to everybody," he stated.

Idogun added, "All the contractors who were awarded contracts have their data base and other vital information are intact with us in case they refuse to finish the contract.
"Edo state is the first sub national government that published contracts awarded to contractors on website, we started publishing since 2016 and we have not stopped."

Going further, Idogun said, "In this Governor Obaseki led administration is not possible for anybody to siphon state money in the name of contracts and run away. When we came, the issue was not whether contracts were executed to the normal standard, but abandoned of contracts was the order of the day."

Explaining how the agency had established in the civil service, the Procurement Officer Cadre, Henry Idogun, said the aim is to unified the local government areas in Edo state.

"We have finally established the Edo State Civil Service, what we called the Procurement Officers Cadre to unified all the local government service, such as we as pool agency.

"We have Procurement Officers spread across many MBA where we facilitate the training of local government staff. there is no local government area in Edo state that doesn't have at least two procurement officers."

Henry Idogun, the CEO of Edo State Public Procurement Agency ( EPPA), who was former Lecturer, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. Edo State and Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma said the agency equally provide human capacity building to their staff to enhance their skill.
